New 1-day MISP courses

Satellite courses

The Massage in Schools Association has launched their new satellite programmes, in addition to the original 2-day courses, and are now offering one day courses to suit the needs of growing demand.

The three MISP satellites programmes were especially designed to widen the possibility for more and more children to experience the benefits of nurturing touch.
They are all offered by registered MISP international Trainers.
Interested parties can communicate directly with an MISP international Trainer to organise a local training or to inquire about planned trainings in various countries around the world. Each course is one day long, and comes with a specifically written manual and material related to the course.The new courses are as follows:

1. MINI-MISP
The MINI-MISP is an adapted version of the MISP, designed for 2 and 3 year olds. It was developed to answer specific requests from nurseries. Participants to MINI-MISP trainings will learn about developmentally appropriate touch for children of 2 and 3 years old. On completion of the training, they will receive a “MINI-MISP practitioner’s certificate”.

Participants accepted on this course:
a) Early years educators who are already working with children aged 2 and 3 years old in any kind of early years centre;
b) MISP instructors with wish to refine their skills and become able to implement with this group age;
c) IAIM instructors.

2. MISP Practitioners
This one-day course is especially designed for regular class teachers who wish to implement the MISP routine with the children they work with on a daily basis. This was to answer the need for accessibility of the MISP to more children in training the teachers in a shorter amount of time. At the end of the day, the teachers will receive an MISP practitioner’s certificate.

Participants accepted on this course:
a) Regular school teachers who are already working with children between the ages of 4 and 12;
b) MISP Instructors wishing to refresh.

3. Touch and Move to Learn
This one-day workshop was created to foster the practice of touch and movement within the daily education of children. Participants will learn the foundations for that idea as well as be introduced to several age appropriate activities to foster children’s development, coordination, integration and self-regulation.
After the day, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Participants accepted on this course
School teachers, parents, educators and MISP instructors, children’s therapists.

We have received some nice updates about the Massage in Schools Programme being implemented in Hanoi, Vietnam. In her travels throughout Asia, MISP instructor Celia Ortega joined fellow instructor Sophie McLeish for one of her weekly Massage sessions at Blossom House girls home in Hanoi.

The girls love forming a massage train, going through all the simple and relaxing strokes, before getting into pairs to do a story. This week they did one about the famous Vietnamese legend Lac Long Quan and Au Co – the dragon and the fairy from whom some believe the Vietnamese ancestors descended from. These stories are translated into both English and Vietnamese. Next week they want to do one about ‘The Little Match Girl!’

The girls were very excited to meet someone else from a different country and all were extremely relaxed afterwards, even the social worker who was assisting.
